Brompton folding bikes make room for cycling in everyday life. Ride to work, combine journeys with public transport or fold your bike away at home, with a choice of models that puts carrying weight, storage and riding comfort at the heart of the decision.
The compact C Line is a practical starting point for city riding, while P Line reduces weight for riders who regularly lift and carry their bike. G Line takes a different approach, with larger 20 inch wheels for roads, gravel paths and journeys beyond the city. Electric Brompton models add pedal assistance for hills and longer rides.
Explore the Brompton range at Wheelbase, compare the available builds and find the folding bike that fits your route.
A folding bike needs to work between rides as well as on the road. Think about where you will store it, how often you will carry it and the surfaces you ride. These everyday details help narrow down the Brompton range.
Brompton C Line
C Line combines a steel frame with 16 inch wheels and Brompton’s compact fold. It is a practical choice for commuting, errands and journeys that mix cycling with public transport. Compare the gearing and handlebar options on each build to find a setup suited to your route and riding position.
Brompton P Line
P Line keeps the compact 16 inch wheel format while placing greater emphasis on low weight. It is worth considering if lifting your bike up stairs or carrying it between connections is a regular part of your journey. Construction and equipment vary between generations, so compare the specification and weight of the particular bike you are buying.
Brompton G Line
G Line opens up more riding possibilities with 20 inch wheels, wider tyres and hydraulic disc brakes. Its larger wheel format suits mixed surfaces, from city streets to gravel paths. The trade-off is a larger folded package and more weight than the smaller-wheel non-electric ranges, so consider how often you need to carry it.
Brompton Electric Folding Bikes
Electric assistance can make hills, headwinds and longer journeys easier to manage. Electric C Line combines assistance with the smaller-wheel city format, while Electric G Line adds 20 inch wheels and hydraulic disc brakes for mixed-surface riding.
An electric bike adds motor and battery weight, so balance the benefit on your route against any lifting you need to do. Check the individual product specification for its electric system, battery, gearing and weight.
Choosing Your Brompton
Start with your usual journey. For city streets and compact storage, look at C Line. If frequent carrying is a priority, compare P Line. For larger wheels and riding beyond smooth roads, consider G Line. Choose an electric model if assistance would make your regular journeys more manageable.
Brompton luggage, racks and other accessories can help adapt your bike to everyday use. Check compatibility with your particular range and model before choosing accessories.
Which Brompton bike should I buy?
Choose around your route and how often you will carry the bike. C Line is a useful starting point for everyday city journeys, P Line prioritises lower weight, and G Line suits riders looking for larger wheels and mixed-surface capability. Electric models add assistance, with extra weight to consider when lifting.
What is the difference between Brompton C Line and P Line?
Both use 16 inch wheels and a compact folding format. C Line has a steel frame, while P Line uses lighter construction and components. The exact materials, gearing and weight depend on the generation and build, so compare the individual product specifications.
What makes Brompton G Line different?
G Line uses 20 inch wheels, wider tyres and hydraulic disc brakes, giving it a different riding character from the smaller-wheel Bromptons. It suits journeys that include rougher roads and gravel paths, but takes up more space when folded and weighs more than the non-electric C Line and P Line.
Should I choose an electric Brompton?
Electric assistance is worth considering if hills, headwinds or distance make your usual journeys demanding. It can help make cycling a more manageable everyday option. If you regularly carry your bike up stairs, compare the total weight carefully before deciding.
What is the difference between Electric C Line and Electric G Line?
Electric C Line uses the smaller 16 inch wheel format suited to city riding and compact storage. Electric G Line has larger 20 inch wheels and hydraulic disc brakes for mixed-surface journeys. Compare their folded size and carrying weight alongside the terrain you expect to ride.
How many gears do I need on a Brompton?
Consider the steepest part of your route, the distance you ride and any luggage you carry. A simpler setup may suit flatter journeys, while a wider gear range gives you more options for hills. Gear count alone does not tell you how easy a bike will be to pedal uphill, so compare the gearing of the specific builds.
Do electric Brompton bikes still fold?
Yes. Electric C Line and Electric G Line retain Brompton’s folding design. Their batteries can be removed, but folded dimensions and carrying weights differ between models. Check these measurements against your storage space and lifting needs.
How do I choose the right Brompton size?
On C Line and P Line, handlebar and seatpost options help determine fit and riding position. G Line and Electric G Line use Small, Medium and Large configurations with different stem and seatpost heights. Use the size guidance for the particular model rather than assuming every Brompton fits in the same way.
