Marin has been creating bikes in California since 1986, with mountain biking at the heart of the brand. Today, Marin produces bikes for a wide range of riders, from accessible hardtail mountain bikes and kids bikes through to full suspension trail, enduro and downhill machines.
The Marin mountain bike range is built around different styles of riding rather than a single approach. Hardtails such as the Bolinas Ridge and Bobcat Trail provide accessible routes into off-road riding, while the San Quentin takes the hardtail platform towards more aggressive trail riding.
For riders looking for full suspension, the Rift Zone is designed around versatile trail riding, while the Alpine Trail moves towards more demanding terrain and enduro riding. Marin also produces more specialist bikes, including the Alcatraz for dirt jump and slopestyle riding and the Quake for downhill and bike park terrain.
Whether you’re choosing your first mountain bike or looking for something built around more technical riding, understanding where each Marin model sits in the range makes it easier to find the right bike for your trails.

Start with the type of riding you plan to do. The Bolinas Ridge and Bobcat Trail provide accessible hardtail options, while the San Quentin is designed for more aggressive trail riding. The Rift Zone provides full suspension for versatile trail riding, with the Alpine Trail moving towards more demanding enduro terrain. Specialist models such as the Alcatraz and Quake are designed around dirt jump and downhill riding respectively.
The San Quentin is a hardtail mountain bike, combining front suspension with a rigid rear end for direct and responsive trail handling. The Rift Zone uses full suspension to provide additional control and comfort over rougher terrain. The right choice depends on your riding style, terrain and whether you prefer hardtail simplicity or the additional capability of full suspension.
Both are full suspension Marin mountain bikes, but they’re designed around different riding priorities. The Rift Zone is a versatile trail bike, while the Alpine Trail moves towards more aggressive terrain and enduro riding.
